"About Ukyo Kamigori"
Kyoto-based calligrapher Shingun Ukei is the third generation of the Onchikai calligraphy school, which was founded in 1924 during the Taisho era by his grandfather, Shingun Banshu. Ukei was born in Tokyo and was taught by his father, Shingun Aichiku, from a young age, and has continued to carry on the tradition to the present day.
Having grown up in Tokyo, Ukei is influenced by subcultures such as surfing, skating, music, and fashion, and says, "There is a close relationship between calligraphy, surfing, and the flow of life, and taking the right line is important in everything."
He is an artist who combines both traditional and modern cultures, learning from the past and applying it to the present.
